Message of the Slovenian-American community
Many say that Fr. Pedro is to Madagascar what Mother Theresa was to India. We have what may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet this humble, great man of God -- who one day may very well be declared a saint. While on a short visit to the United States, he will be in stopping in Cleveland to greet the Slovenian community. A banquet in his honor is being co-sponsored by the Slovenian-American community at large, St Mary’s and St. Vitus Churches, Catholic Mission Aid Society, and the Slovenian American Times. The purpose of this event is twofold. First, it gives us the opportunity to meet this saintly man, honor him for his work, and hopefully allow him the opportunity to inspire all of us, to be the best we can be in following the biblical admonition of caring for widows, orphans, the homeless, the hungry, and the poor. Secondly, we hope to rally our community in collectively raising much-needed funds to help further his ministry to the poor. A goal has been set to raise at least $100,000 towards that end. The amount is ambitious, but the need is even greater. We need God’s blessing and grace, together with the hard work and generosity of all, for this noble effort to be successful. The monies raised will also serve as tremendous encouragement to Fr. Pedro and his co-laborers as they continue to do God’s work.
