“Get out from your daily life and help us generously so that we can continue our action to the thousands of families who want to get out of poverty and exclusion of humanity!”

Sunday, October 19, 2014.
This year the Akamasoa association celebrates its 25 years of existence.  25 years of constant struggle and fight against the poverty prevailing in the country of Madagascar,  but also 25 years of love for a whole excluded people.

Poverty is not a malediction, but a sad reality that has its causes and can be overcome, it is what we try to do during all these years.

This long path was not without obstacles and suffering, but today, everything that has been achieved by the association enables thousands of families to live in dignity.

It all started when I met people from the street and the dump site of Antananarivo, Capital of Madagascar, in 1989.
When I saw all this desperation I could not stand there just to observe and doing nothing.
It was necessary to move and take action right away.

Thanks to the determination and courage of a whole team, consisting of 484 employees all Malagasy, and thanks to the generosity of many men and women.

18 villages AKAMASOA have been built from scratch and are shelters to so many children, parents and elderly today.

Statements by the President of Madagascar Hery Rajaonarimampianina, this October 18, 2014: “father Pedro is a living image of hope and faith to overcome poverty. We invite all citizens around the world to pay tribute to this exceptional person who has invested every day of his life to combat poverty and exclusion and had build up a new human society bringing hope and happiness to the poor”.

In 25 years, more than half million people came in our centers and have been helped, a figure that we would have never imagined at the outset of our association.
Today there are thousands of people who live in the Akamasoa centers.

For the school year 2013/2014, 11,550 children who are enrolled in schools Akamasoa, from kindergarten to College, our institutions are recognized by the Malagasy State.

These schools also provide to dozen young people training in mechanical auto, metal work and carpentry workshops.
A hotel school was born early 2012 to allow some young people to train for the restoration skills and hotel management. Akamasoa nurseries cater for children from 2 years and a half allowing mothers to have a gainful occupation during this time.

Canteens provide year round lunch for all schoolchildren and the elderly also receive a weekly food ration. The association rovides by itself more than 240 tons of rice annually since the European Union stops their Aid, in addition to 400 tons planned for needy families seeking relief at the visitor center.

Thanks to the Slovenian Government that replaced the European Community supply.

Today, there are:
5 kinder gardens, 5 primary schools, 4 colleges, 2 high schools, 3 libraries,  2 football fields, 10 basketball courts and 2 volleyball courts, infrastructure managed by Akamasoa.

But it is not counting on educational sites built by Akamasoa and managed by the State in the other provinces (32 primary schools, 2 colleges, and 1 high school in Fianarantsoa, and 27 primary schools in Vangaindrano).

Teaching staff represents 314 jobs and is assisted by 70 social workers.
Outside of our villages, we have a population of more than 20 million inhabitants  which 97% are below the poverty line.
Here we take care of the poorest of the poorest who are 50% of the total population and represent more than 10 million people, women and children awaiting for us.

We have to do it and give them this hope that all human being is entitled to have.
Provide your generous support so that we can continue our mission.
